The Killings in Ciudad Juárez

This article from CNN discusses the brutal murders of more than 200 women in Ciudad Juárez. Many women come from different parts of Mexico to earn the highest wages offered in any of the cities' 400 maquilas. Some women have disappeared during broad daylight only to be found dead later. Many bodies are never found. Sharif was believed to be the murderer, however laters members of a gang, the bus drivers, and members of the Juárez municipal police have been charged as a result of the investigation. Many of the suspected murderers remain in prison, however the murders continue. Another great source of information about these tragedies is the movie Senorita Extraviada by Lourdes Portillo. The documentary gives accounts of families' search for their missing daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, cousins, and friends. Senorita Extraviada also provides a look at how the border city of Juárez is the epitome of globalization and its women will be sacrificed for the good of global companies.
