Dr. Steven St. John - Salt Appetitive

ABOUT THE TALK: Have you ever noticed that Gatorade tastes best after a vigorous workout?  Did you know that farmers will provide pure salt to pregnant animals?  What drove a man with an adrenal gland tumor to empty a salt shaker onto his t-bone steak?  The presentation will explore the phenomenon of salt appetite, in which people and animals devour salt at levels that would normally be aversive.

ABOUT THE GUEST: Dr. Steven St. John is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Rollins College. He received his PhD in Psychology at the University of Florida in 1997 and has continued his research in the neurobiology of taste at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Reed College, and Rollins College.

Following the talk, a luncheon will be provided for all attendees.

Visit Dr. St. John's web site.
