Songwriting & Storytelling:
Utilizing personality type and brain dominance in the creative process of songwriting.

For the past three years, seventy-two Wofford College students have participated in a course designed to illustrate principles from personality and cognitive psychology in the creative process of songwriting.  As part of the course, each student kept a daily song journal, participated in experimental writing techniques, analyzed the lyrics over several genres of a music, analyzed the techniques of famous songwriters and ultimately composed their own unique lyrical song.

As part of the course, independent songwriters are brought in as guest lecturers to share their experiences and interact with the students.  Past guest artists include: James "Sunny Jim" White, Jim Morris, R. Scott Bryan, and Peter Mayer.  It has turned out to be a very rewarding experience for both the students & the musician/songwriters.  As proof of its success, this course will be offered again during the Interim period of January 2004.  We are very fortunate to have both Peter Mayer and R. Scott Bryan returning to participate in the 2004 Interim!
