Conclusion

In conclusion, I have learned that from an economic point of view, the most important characteristic of informal activities is that society in general and those directly involved benefit more if the law is violated than if it is followed. There are informals because people, given their small incomes, cannot work otherwise, cannot pay taxes, cannot comply with the law, cannot have access to formally build housing because they cannot afford it. It is not a cultural shortcoming; it is not an ethnic heritage; it is not a mental problem; it is legal discrimination. When unemployment is an issue, people are going to try and create a job in the informal economy. Sometimes there are no other options. I too, in this position, would try to create a job for myself in the informal economy.
